A public lecture with Dr David Moffit
Many during the time of Jesus would have assumed that prayer and sacrifice were tightly bound together. But how might we imagine these aspects of worship to be related? To begin answering this question we will first consider some features of Jewish sacrifice not often recognised in modern conceptions of the practice. Features such as the direction that both sacrifice and prayer travel, as it were, will be especially examined. These and other elements of Jewish sacrifice open new ways to reflect on the importance of Jesus’s ongoing high priestly ministry before the Father for the practice of prayer even today.
