How to become an Approved Supervisor for the Baptist Union of New Zealand (BUNZ)

The Baptist Union of New Zealand (BUNZ) is committed to ensuring that Baptist Registration (BR) registrants (practitioners) have access to quality supervision to support their professional and personal wellbeing as per the four aims of Baptist Registration supervision. These are:

    1. To support practitioner professional development
    2. To support practitioner wellbeing
    3. To support practitioner safe and ethical practice
    4. To support practitioner reflective learning

As part of this, the BUNZ require that all those wishing to become approved have : 

      • A recognised professional qualification in supervision    
      • A minimum of 2 years experience in a ministry context having supervised at least one person from a ministry context (e.g., a pastor)

Additionally, applicants will be required to :

      • Agree to work in alignment with, and respect, the Baptist Union of NZ statement of faith and an understanding of the Christian context in which our registrants serve
      • Agree to work with the Baptist Registration 4 aims of external supervision support
      • Commit to safe & ethical practice
      • Agree to receiving their own supervision support
      • Agree to particiate in a biennial review process.
      • Sign the application agreement form
      • Agree to provide an External Supervision Support Agreement that complies with BUNZ standards

How do I apply?

Applications are welcomed from those who meet the above criteria and attend a 2 hour online orientation (see below).  Applications will be reviewed by the BUNZ Supervisor Approval Panel who will meet 4-6 weeks after the online orientation.  You are required to provide 2 referees for the approval panel members to contact.  Baptist Registrants are also required to be endorsed by their Regional Leader.

If the Approval Panel agree, having reviewed your application, that you meet all the criteria, you will be approved for a 2-year period.  Renewal after this time, is a simple process.

The next Online Orientation is scheduled for 25th June 1pm-3pm and if you meet the criteria outlined above, we’d welcome your enrolment.
