Te Reo Maori Language Level 1 - Beginners (2 Mar - 15 Jun 2020)

Te Reo Maori Language Level 1 - Beginners (2 Mar - 15 Jun 2020)

The Te Reo Maori Language Course for Beginners is part of Carey’s commitment to the Treaty journey. The class is fun, interactive and focussed mainly on developing listening and speaking skills.

In the process of learning the basics of te reo Maori we discover who Maori are as tangata whenua (people of the land) and how relationships might be forged and faith shared. We will learn how to mihi (greet people), say pepeha (introduce ourselves and our families), read and recite karakia (prayers), sing waiata (including songs specifically composed for Carey Baptist College). We also learn whakatauki (appropriate proverbs for sermons and mihi), kiwaha (idiomatic sayings) and about whanau (describing our family relationships), whenua (landmarks of Tamaki Makaurau) and marae (tikanga Maori).

We will organise a soup and rolls dinner beforehand at 5pm - please let us know if you would like to come early for this: email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
