Focus on Apologetics: Contemporary Apologetics in a Post Christian Society with Mark Powell (Focus Webinar Series 2020)

Webinar presented on Wednesday 4 March 7.30pm-8.30pm

Apologetics is often assumed to be about complex intellectual argumentation that ignores the relational experiential dimension of faith. However over the last decade there has emerged a holistic conversational apologetics, suited to our contemporary post Christian context. It’s simply about what anyone believes regarding the big questions of life and why they believe it. Mark teaches a course in apologetics at Carey and runs one day church apologetics workshops.

Mark Powell has had a long career in business, finishing as CEO of The Warehouse Group three years ago. In the Business area he has a Bachelor’s degree in Mining engineering, a Masters in Logistics and a MBA. He has a diversity of commercial board roles and is an Adjunct Professor at Auckland Graduate School of Management. In addition to his business roles, Mark is Chair of the New Zealand Christian Network and the Venn Foundation. He is also qualified as a Baptist Pastor, having completed the Pastoral Leadership track alongside the Applied Theology degree at Carey. Additionally, he has a Masters in Christian Apologetics from Biola University in the USA. Mark currently teaches apologetics at Carey and is on the Carey Board. Mark is an Elder at Whangaparaoa Baptist Church, the same church he came to faith in through Alpha in 2003.

This webinar series provides a stimulating training resource for church leaders, practitioners, and volunteers. Each month a new focus illuminates topics from theology, Bible, pastoral care, mission, youth, history, and culture. The content is provided by high calibre academic researchers and practitioners of Carey’s faculty and other experts in thier field.

Each webinar is an hour long, containing 40 minutes of content, with live Q&A. These are recorded with ongoing access available online. Watch on your own, or together as a leadership team, or create a group to join together for this 8-month series. One reading (a book chapter or article) is included after each webinar to go a little deeper.
