Unlocking Revelation 2018 (Laurie Guy)

Unlocking Revelation – 10 keys to unlocking the Bible’s final words

In this option the idea is to slowly work through Laurie Guy’s 2016 book “Unlocking Revelation – 10 keys to unlocking the Bible’s final words”. We’ve devised a reading plan from mid-February to mid-December where every month one of the “10 keys” is engaged with, along with a few reflection questions. It’s not a big book (140 pages), and some people could probably read it in one sitting. The idea is to take a month to ponder each “key” in question, and set aside some time to slowly work through The Book of Revelation yourself alongside this pondering.

Work through a section of the book (~10 pages), with your Bible on one side and your journal on the other as you reflect on the questions provided. A list of other resources is provided in the book so further exploration is made easy.

The book back cover says:

“The book of Revelation: how are we to understand it? Is it a scary prediction of the end-times, with special reference to the northern hemisphere in the twenty-first century? Does it need a guru to decode it for us? It’s often called ‘apocalyptic’ – what does that mean? Laurie Guy provides ten keys to unlock many of the mysteries of this fascinating biblical text. By offering this insightful framework, he allows readers both to appreciate the multi-layered text, and to catch fresh glimpses of the glory of God.”

Laurie Guys says in his book:

“The reflective thought I have urged in this book leads on to inspired imagination, but in a manner that goes way beyond a naïve, subjective and superficial reading of the material.” (pg 95).

There is no longer a requirement for a final reflection essay for this Guided Learning option. Instead, to complete this Guided Learning option you need to post your monthly reflections for each chapter on Facebook, or email them to Laurie Guy for feedback.

Use the five questions in the Reflection Guide as a basis to aid your reflection and journaling through the ten months. Your responses to these questions might make useful conversation starters when you meet with your own supervisor/mentor/spiritual-director/coach.

Feel free to email or phone the Facilitator (Laurie Guy) thoughts or questions at any time through the ten months.
