This is a private document for you unless you choose to share something of the detail in your final reflection or with the facilitator through the year in the coaching sessions.

Content block #4 (start beginning-July*)

* To get the Action point completed in time, start this content block at the beginning of July

Click here to see video on YouTube (sometimes the video will not start at beginning)

Read selected chapters from: Your spiritual gifts can help your church grow by Wagner, C. Peter, Baker Publishing Group. Buy online at The Book Depository (apprxo NZ$18) Or on Kindle from Amazon (approx US$11).

Read Chapter 6: The Pastor’s Gift-Mix.
Read Chapter 10: Five Steps Your Church Can Take to Grow through Gifts

Action: Work out what shape your Church is in terms of which Spiritual gifts are present in your congregation.

It would be helpful to take your congregation through a spiritual gifts assessment. The facilitator of this option, Gary Colville, can offer the ‘Hosanna Ministries’ booklet and a standalone computer based ‘Spiritual Gifts’ discovery tool. To do this with a congregation there is the need to set up a person who can specialise in being the co-ordinator. The Hosanna Baptist Porirua Church Executive Pastor is willing to assist training a person in your church to use this spiritual gifts assessment tool. The book and postage will be about $10 (cheaper if in bulk).

Hosanna Baptist Porirua have developed this resource and have been using it with churches since 2000. They created this tool in response to a lack of clarity around some things attributed as spiritual gifts that are not defined as such in Scripture or the definition is not accurate with the Greek words, ie paraklēsis has both meanings of 'exhortation' and  'encouragement' in the definition but translations use one or the other in English which creates problems for understanding the Gift etc.

Reflection: What priority does Scripture put around the Holy Spirit’s Gifts from Acts to Ephesians. Summarise the methodology Jesus & the early Church used in terms of how they prescribed and went about doing ministry.

Coaching Session near the end of July

Content block #5 (start beginning September)

Content: Read the book: The Fourth Dimension: Combined Edition volumes 1&2 by David Yonggi Cho (1996). You can opt to read either volume 1 or both 1 & 2 of the book. Cho was converted in South Korea from Buddhism and writes with authority on the spirit world. His Presbyterian church grew to over 1 million people. This is an older book but still a classic.
Buy online at The Book Depository (approx $22 delivered), or on Kindle from Amazon (approx US$10), or Bookworm Free download in several formats.

Action: Ask God ‘What is my next step in this Church?’ – share this with your other leaders/Elders.

Reflection: What did you learn about faith and the Spirit filled imagination? What are some of the ways the Holy Spirit communicates with us?

Coaching Session near the start of October
