Guided Learning 2020

Guided Learning is a low-intensity, online learning pathway for you to follow over 8 months (Feb-Oct).

Each module aims to move you through a cycle of content, action, and reflection. An online forum creates a space for you to share your reflections with others on the same learning journey. No assessment or credit, just the opportunity to learn and be part of a small cohort learning together with the guide of an experienced facilitator(s).

Guided Learning 2020 is live from 10 Feb to 11 Oct, and takes 1-2 hrs per week to complete.

$110 per course.

Participants are to journal a reflection on each month’s engagement with the spiritual discipline, some of which is to be shared online within the cohort working through this Guided Learning option.

The eight spiritual disciplines are:

  • Hospitality

Good Governance 2020 (Martyn Norrie)
  • Are you aware of the compliance obligations of the Church or charity that you are involved with?
  • Is your Church or charity complying with these?
  • How could organisational performance be improved by an increased focus on strategic planning?
  • Is the organisation exposed to risk by the employment practices that are being followed?
  • Are you confident that you are receiving the financial reports that you need to govern your Church or charity effectively?
  • How does Occupational Safety and Health feature in your Board discussions and thinking?
  • Does your Board include the diversity of skills and representation that will ensure effective governance in the future?
  • Do you have a succession plan for members of your Board?
  • How could you improve your interaction around the Board table and the outcomes that are achieved?
  • How will your organisation respond to the challenges of operating in a multi-national environment?

So many questions that you should be able to answer if you desire to be effective in governing a Church or Not for Profit organisation.

In this Guided Learning option, through the pages of my new book “Good Governance Is Worth The Effort: A Handbook for Christian Charities and Churches in Aotearoa” (to be published early 2019), I attempt to address these issues and many more, as well as journey with you as part of this Guided Learning cohort as you engage and reflect on the course content and your own ministry context.
