Unlocking Revelation 2017 (Laurie Guy)

Unlocking Revelation – 10 keys to unlocking the Bible’s final words

In this option the idea is to slowly work through Laurie Guy’s 2016 book “Unlocking Revelation – 10 keys to unlocking the Bible’s final words”. We’ve devised a reading plan from February to October where every three weeks one of the “10 keys” is engaged with, along with a few reflection questions. It’s not a big book (140 pages), and some people could probably read it in one sitting. The idea is to take a few weeks to ponder each “key” in question, and set aside some time to slowly work through The Book of Revelation yourself alongside this pondering.

Work through a section of the book (~10 pages), with your Bible on one side and your journal on the other as you reflect on the questions provided. A list of other resources is provided in the book so further exploration is made easy.

We would like to have a group component to the study. There will be a closed Facebook group where the participants in this option are to give a brief comment after each reading and reflection set, and to enable engagement with others. Laurie will be part of this Facebook group and available to interact.

Please plan to have the reading completed by the indicated date - doing this together will be a big boost to your learning and a great help to others in the group.

The book back cover says:

“The book of Revelation: how are we to understand it? Is it a scary prediction of the end-times, with special reference to the northern hemisphere in the twenty-first century? Does it need a guru to decode it for us? It’s often called ‘apocalyptic’ – what does that mean? Laurie Guy provides ten keys to unlock many of the mysteries of this fascinating biblical text. By offering this insightful framework, he allows readers both to appreciate the multi-layered text, and to catch fresh glimpses of the glory of God.”

Laurie Guys says in his book:

“The reflective thought I have urged in this book leads on to inspired imagination, but in a manner that goes way beyond a naïve, subjective and superficial reading of the material.” (pg 95).

Buy your own copy of the book ($25 from The Book Depository, or $20 pickup from Carey – if you can’t get to Carey email Laurie Guy This email address is being protected from spambots. At the start of this nine-month option, you need to make arrangements with a suitable person to act as your coach through the nine months, meeting at least once every two months. This person should be someone accessible to your local context, able to meet physically or online with you regularly over the year. They need to be willing and able to walk alongside you during the nine months. Ask them if they would consider reading the book if they haven’t already. The objective is for your coach to meet with you and help you to assess your current ministry practice and develop your learning experience into new or altered patterns of ministry practice in your own context. Email this Guide to Coaching page to a potential coach to see that they are willing and able to work with you throughout the nine months, which will involve around five meetings with you of about an hour in length.
